Case Study of Industry 4.0 Capability for Fume Exhaust Units

Abstract
This master thesis has two major purposes: (1) to investigate Industry 4.0 capabilities for fume exhaust units and (2) to create a prototype unit for needs of ULT AGcompany which complies with the Industry 4.0 rules and shows possibilities for future development in this area.Industry 4.0 is considered as the fourth industrial revolution describing the futureindustry development trends leading to smart factories and intelligent production.Part of this thesis introduces basic principles and ideas of Industry 4.0 and presentsvarious solutions related with the fume exhaust industry. As a reaction to increasingnumber of manufacturing processes employing Industry 4.0, the companies providingfiltration solutions such as ULT AG are made to think about future form and featuresof their products.The prototype unit uLite (ULT Air Quality Module) was created as a practicalpart of this thesis. Its purpose is to measure various parameters associated withthe air quality and with the filtration unit itself, log them, save them to memorymedium, present them to the user and share with other devices. The uLite unitcore is based on ARM R Cortex R -M4 technology. The unit monitors the filtratedair quality and can detect if any harmful substances are left behind. It also hasfunction to measure filtration unit vibration and possibility to connect externalwaterproof probe. Furthermore there is option to measure pressure difference. Twopairs of pressure differences can be measured with total of four inputs. The unit hasits own power supply solution and it is enclosed in durable box.
