- ItemApplying an integrated data-driven weighting system – CoCoSo approach for financial performance evaluation of Fortune 500 companies(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Ersoy, Nazli; Ekonomická fakultaFinancial performance evaluation provides information about a firm’s liquidity position, profitability, capital structure and asset utilization. Financial performance evaluation is considered as a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem, as it is a multidimensional concept that is realized by bringing together multiple indicators. This study is aimed to evaluate the financial performance of the Fortune 500 companies by using the integrated data-driven weighting system (IDDWS) – combined compromise solution (CoCoSo) approach. The criteria weights were calculated with the IDDWS and the companies were ranked by the CoCoSo method. In the last stage, a three-stage sensitivity analysis was performed to test the robustness of the model. In the first stage, 15 scenarios were defined by changing the criteria weights. In the second stage, the rankings of the CoCoSo method were compared with the other MCDM methods [range of value (ROV), proximity indexed value (PIV), complex proportional assessment (COPRAS), Biswas and Saha’s method]. In the third stage, a sensitivity analysis was conducted under five different scenarios based on different δ parameters. It was determined that the rankings obtained as a result of the sensitivity analysis show small deviations and except for a few companies, the ranking of most companies remained the same. The results show that the proposed model is suitable for measuring financial performance and Alphabet performs best. The suitability of the proposed model for measuring financial performance was tested for the first time. It is thought that the comparative use of many MCDM methods through a comprehensive sensitivity analysis will contribute to the literature.
- ItemCAPITAL STRUCTURE ANALYSIS – THEORIES AND DETERMINANTS VALIDATION BASED ON EVIDENCE FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Heckenbergerová, Jana; Honková, Irena; Ekonomická fakultaThe optimal capital structure is a key precondition for business, even though the task of defining the optimal capital structure can be difficult. Previous studies present many different and mutually contradictory factors that should be considered with respect to managerial strategic financial decisions. The first part of the presented contribution summarises the effects of the most frequent capital structure determinants and reviews the world’s most important theories about the behaviour of enterprises when deciding on capital structure. The aim of our contribution is the analysis of capital structure behaviour in the Czech environment. Fundamental capital structure theory is revealed by statistical hypotheses testing. Moreover, we are mainly targeting significant determinants of capital structure. The results help us to create general recommendations for the financial management of Czech companies. In the scope of our study, there are approximately a thousand national financial statements of Czech companies from the most important sectors of economic activity for the period 2016–2019. The correlation analysis with partial correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression analysis was utilised to determine the effects and significance of the individual determinants. Data show that Czech companies do not prefer debt financing recommended by some capital structure theories. Their financial management behaviour corresponds to pecking order theory with insufficient utilisation of tax shield. Sectorwise analyses prove only one exception; motor vehicles wholesale, retail trade, repair and maintenance sector generally prefers financing by debt. Based on the literature review, we selected six significant determinants of capital structure: size, return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), tangibility, asset growth and duration. Advanced statistical analyses show the power and influence of each determinant on capital structure and their mutual relations. Autocorrelations can negatively affect the results of regression analyses. We can conclude that the capital structure of Czech companies is mainly influenced by tangibility and ROA.
- ItemThe CEO characteristics and Romanian banks performance(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Bunea, Mariana; Ionescu Feleaga, Liliana; Ionescu, Bogdan Stefan; Ekonomická fakultaThe main objective of this research is to identify to what extent the characteristics of the CEO (chief executive officer) influence the financial performance of banks within the Romanian banking system. The sample under investigation includes all 21 Romanian banks, and the analyzed period included the financial years related to the last 5 financial years (2018–2022). Regarding these characteristics, aspects such as age, gender diversity, education, nationality, and duality were included in the research, the financial performance of the banking system being measured through the ROA (return on assets) and ROE (return on equity) indicators, which are often used in the literature, including control variables such as the size of the bank, assessed by the total value of bank assets, the share of debts in total assets and the share of capital in total assets. Regarding the duality of the CEO, this is the practice of the same person holding both the position of chairman of the board of directors and that of executive manager. The authors tried to find the answer to the question: Is there a correlation between CEO characteristics and the financial performance of the banks, and if the answer is yes, to what extent are these correlations significant? To carry out this research, the authors used the SPSS software, the research methodology being predominantly quantitative, including descriptive methods, correlation analyses and regression models. The results of the research indicate that the financial performance of the banks operating within the banking system in Romania (measured by the ROA and ROE indicators) is influenced by the nationality and education of the persons holding the position of CEO but also by the size of the banks, appreciated by the value of their total banking assets.
- ItemThe competitive advantage of enterprises from the customer perspective(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Maráková, Vanda; Wolak-Tuzimek, Anna; Lament, Marzanna; Dzúriková, Lenka; Ekonomická fakultaThe ability to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage in the long term is one of the most valuable abilities of a company in the modern economy. Companies strive to achieve a competitive advantage in order to be recognised by customers, which is expected to lead to increased revenues and profits. It is important to choose factors serving to achieve a competitive advantage. More desirable are factors that are difficult to copy by competitors and adapted to the opinions and needs of consumers. The aim of the article is to identify the sources of competitive advantage of enterprises in the opinion of consumers from Slovakia and Poland. The article analyses the literature on the subject and uses the methods of descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The analysis of the results is based on surveys conducted on a group of consumers from Slovakia and Poland using statistical software. A questionnaire assesses the importance of competitive factors utilised by companies. The obtained results confirm that quality is an important source of competitive advantage and country is a variable differentiating the selection of sources of competitive advantage. The research contributes to the ongoing scientific discussion, more specifically taking into account the consumer focus. To summarise, gaining a competitive advantage is a complex task influenced by a number of factors. To a large extent, they are related to the capacity for innovation, to the resources possessed, including human capital, and to the ability to respond to market needs and the use of marketing tools. The research contributes to the development of theories in the field of enterprise competitiveness, and its results can serve as recommendations for enterprise managers to identify the key sources of enterprises’ competitive advantage.
- ItemCritical success factors for public procurement of innovative solutions in Central Europe: Empirical study(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Januska, Martin; Palacka, Alena; Ekonomická fakultaThis article aims to evaluate critical success factors in the use of the Public Procurement for Innovations (PPI) concept. The first part of the article deals with a systematic research literature review on the topic of critical success factors for PPI. In the second part, the authors present empirical research conducted as an add-on to the projects PPI2Innovate and RI2integrate within the Europe and Interreg Danube programs. These projects (whose research team included one of the authors of this paper) analyzed the use of the PPI concept in the EU. The authors approached the teams of experts formed in six countries for the purpose of these two projects to make a list of critical success factors, engaging the Delphi method, for the implementation of projects using the PPI method. Sixteen most frequently recurring critical success factors were chosen for further evaluation. These critical factors were then evaluated on a Likert scale in terms of their significance. This is followed by a discussion of the results of the critical factors identified within the systematic literature review with regards to other authors and existing research. In the final part of the article, possible solutions based on experience from pilot projects are proposed to strengthen the usability of the PPI concept. When comparing the key success factors resulting from the literature review with those identified within the expert research, it is apparent that they are mostly the same, although there are slight differences. The expert research identified the sharing of best practices and model projects in the country as additional key success factors.
- ItemA critique of quantitative easing by the Federal Reserve System and the European Central Bank(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Pichova, Simona; Cernohorsky, Jan; Kacerova, Marketa; Zila, Jan; Ekonomická fakultaThe application of quantitative easing tools by certain central banks has been and continues to be the subject of professional debate. Therefore, this paper aims to assess an alternative scenario to the use of quantitative easing. We have used counterfactual analysis to estimate GDP growth in the US and in the Eurozone for the period during which quantitative easing was implemented, i.e., since 2009 in the US and since 2015 in the Eurozone. We used a vector autoregression (VAR) model for the analysis. We concluded that, in retrospect, the use of quantitative easing appears to be unwarranted. While there was slightly higher GDP growth in the Eurozone than there would have been without quantitative easing, there was no smoothing of the economic cycle. At the same time, returning to the inflation target took a relatively long time. In the US, quantitative easing prevented an initial slide into a deep recession and smoothed the economic cycle over the medium term. Overall, however, quantitative easing has mostly had a negative effect. One major negative is that when this instrument is used over a long time period, economic subjects gradually come to see it as a standard tool. Furthermore, inflation, central banks’ main objective, did not rise rapidly over the period in question; on the contrary, over the long term, quantitative easing has become one of the factors behind today’s higher inflation rates. An excessive monetary supply has created imbalances in the financial markets and has been a factor in price bubbles in the stock, bond, and property markets. Last but not least, it has increased moral hazard for governments, which have gone further into debt without difficulty. At the same time, central bank independence was violated, which has caused an abnormal increase in the central banks’ balance sheets. We, therefore, recommend that this unconventional monetary policy instrument should only be used in the short term for emergency situations as a clear central bank response to stabilize the economy.
- ItemThe dark side of knowledge transfer: A visual analysis using VOSviewer(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Wang, Yijing; Wang, Changfeng; Ekonomická fakultaBuilding the core competitiveness and improving the innovation performance of the team is becoming increasingly important to keep pace with changing economic environments and emerging technological opportunities. However, the dark side of knowledge transfer can lead to a series of harmful consequences which will destroy the core competitiveness and creativity of the team, even will reduce the innovation performance of the team. And the literature on the dark side knowledge transfer is very fragmented and lack of coherence, leading to more needs to systematically sort through studies on the dark sides of knowledge transfer. Therefore, this paper aims at reviewing the extant knowledge transfer and its dark side research field to understand the historical roots, its temporal progression, current state and potential future in a meaningful way. Data for this study were retrieved from the Web of Science database using a systematic literature search process. The bibliometric characteristics of 926 research documents were analyzed using bibliometric and knowledge mapping analysis. Based on a visual analysis tool VOSviewer, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the dark side of the knowledge transfer research field. The authors provide a quantitative review of these studies through the use of three bibliometric techniques: general description analysis, co-word analysis, and bibliographic coupling. This paper provides an overview of the annual publication trends, most productive and impactful countries, authors, and sources. The authors present an overview of historical progression, current status, and future directions of the dark side of knowledge transfer research based on an in-depth content analysis of these knowledge maps. This is a unique endeavor to accomplish a systematic bibliometric analysis of the dark side of knowledge transfer, offering an intellectual framework which reveals the antecedents and consequences of the dark side of knowledge transfer.
- ItemDefending the nation, securing the economy(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Iuga, Iulia-Cristina; Socol, Adela; Ekonomická fakultaLiterature on the effects of military expenses and GDP is mixed, although a significant body of research supports the hypothesis that military expenses positively impact GDP. To contribute to the literature, this article analyses whether military expenditures influenced GDP in 27 European Union member countries from 1998 to 2021 by studying two clusters specific to the analysed countries: NATO and non-NATO countries. The way in which military expenditures affect GDP has been analysed using both the classic static models for panel data (pooled OLS, fixed effects, random effects, feasible generalized least squares, panel corrected standard errors, Poisson pseudomaximum likelihood regression) as well as by applying dynamic panel model system GMM, reverse causality, and half-panel jackknife regression models, with unemployment and inflation selected as control variables. The findings indicate that the current values of military expenditures positively influence GDP in both clusters, while past values of military expenditures positively influence GDP in the NATO EU countries and negatively affect GDP in the non-NATO EU countries. There are several key differences between NATO EU members and non-NATO EU members, particularly in regard to their security commitments and defence spending. NATO members are part of a mutual defence pact, agreeing to the principle of collective defence, which also impacts public defence policies and public budgets. This paper offers practical value to policymakers, stakeholders, and academicians. In addition, it has two significant political implications. First, it highlights the role of military expenditures as a catalyst for economic growth but does not underestimate the dangers of using military spending as a pretext to stimulate employment. Second, it establishes the optimal proportion of military expenditures required to fulfil two essential targets of national and European policies – security and welfare.
- ItemDeterminants of the implementation of the quality management systems in SMEs(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Gejdoš, Pavol; Závadská, Zuzana; Schmidtová, Jarmila; Ekonomická fakultaThe implementation of the quality management systems using quality improvement methods, tools and approaches is considered one of the significant aspects to increase the per- formance of enterprises in the market environment and growing competition. Most of the authors studied the impact of any of the available quality management tools or philosophies on the performance of enterprises only on a case-by-case basis. The aim of the paper is, however, to examine the effect of implementing a larger scope of tools, approaches or concepts of quality management on the performance of the enterprise more comprehensively from the perspective of their implementation and the assumption of achieving higher enterprise performance. The paper presents the results of the survey, which was carried out from 2020 to 2021. The survey was focused on the implementation of quality management approaches and techniques in small and mediumsized manufacturing enterprises in Slovakia. A total of 313 small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises were addressed through questionnaires. The representativeness of the sample was tested using the chi-squared goodness-of-fit test. Pearson’s chi-squared test and analysis of contingency were implemented to test the established research hypotheses. Through the results of the analyses, it can be claimed that there are significant relationships between the use of quality management approaches and techniques and the performance of enterprises measured through return of costs. At the same time, the most common reasons for implementing quality management approaches were analysed, which confirmed the hypothesis about the reasons for improving product quality and increasing customer satisfaction, which were based on theoretical assumptions verified in practice. The results also show the significant differences between the researched industries, which gives an opportunity for increasing the level of quality in individual segments.
- ItemDIFFERENCES AND SIMILARITIES IN PATTERNS OF AGEING SOCIETY IN THE EUROPEAN UNION(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Kočanová, Denisa; Kováč, Viliam; Serzhanov, Vitaliy; Buleca, Ján; Ekonomická fakultaPopulation ageing is a demographic issue that emphasises the need to be interested in the lives of the most vulnerable population group: the elderly population. The paper investigates the ageing process and their relations among the European Union member countries from 2009 to 2019. These countries are assessed and dispersed to the appropriate clusters according to several indicators related to the areas that affect the lives of the elderly population: namely, the health status, the labour market conditions, and financial security. The focus is on the age group 55 years and over as it is a disadvantaged age group in the job application process regarding ageing society. It is a significant aspect of public finance system. The European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, the Labour Force Survey, and the European System of Integrated Social Protection Statistics data are involved. The quantitative approaches are applied in the cluster analysis and followed by the panel data linear regression analysis. The dendrograms visualise the three clusters representing the mutual relations and the ageing patterns among the explored countries. The heat maps are created to prove the potential relations among the observed countries. The panel regression model demonstrates that the three variables – part-time employment, the income inequality, and the material and social deprivation – are statistically significant in all the regression models for the whole area and the three clusters. The analytical outcome could be applied as a valuable resource to government and national representatives. It can help identify the objectionable determinants for a custom policy and implement appropriate measures to improve the situation of the elderly population.
- ItemDifferent modelling approaches of tax revenue performance: The case of Baltic countries(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Mirović, Vera; Kalaš, Branimir; Milenković, Nada; Andrašić, Jelena; Ekonomická fakultaTax revenue performance represents one of the most essential issues to every government when creating and profiling fiscal policy according to the macroeconomic framework of each country. In particular, this issue comes to the fore in extraordinary circumstances and unstable trends when governments are exposed to greater costs of financing budget deficits and public debts. Tax revenue mobilization shows the government’s ability to collect sufficient revenue to finance government expenditures, as well as cover public needs. By using static and dynamic panel approaches, this research investigates the effect of tax revenue performance in Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) for the period 1995–2020. The main objective of this paper is to identify which determinants are crucial for improving tax revenue performance in the Baltic region. Namely, this research identifies how the main macroeconomic determinants affect the tax revenue performance in Baltic countries, which enables these economies to adjust to their favorable and unfavorable effects from the aspect of tax revenue mobilization. The empirical results show that gross domestic product per capita, industry value added, trade, and government expenditures have positive effects on tax revenue performance, while inflation, gross government debt, and exchange rate volatility negatively affect the tax revenue performance in these economies. Furthermore, the joining of Baltic countries to the European Union upgraded the tax revenue performance of this region in the short-run and long-run. Precisely, Baltic countries should focus on a higher level of economic growth, greater industry share and trade of GDP, as well as lower inflation rate, lesser exchange rate volatility, and smaller government gross debt.
- ItemDiscovering the mindsets of the luxury recycling phenomenon(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Todri, Ardita; Papajorgji, Petraq; Ekonomická fakultaThis study focuses on two main luxury items recycling issues. First, understanding customers’ attitudes toward recycling luxury items via e-business and second, discovering e-platforms configurations used. This study considers as input parameters consumers’ age and gender. Thus, an online survey implementing a mind genomics experiment was delivered to 4,320 international consumers regardless of whether they have experienced or not recycling luxury items via e-commerce channels. Only 3,624 consumers participated in the study, indicating one of four reasons they recycle luxury items via e-commerce channels. These reasons are: to renew their wardrobe often, follow fashion without paying an exorbitant price, profit from selling clothes & accessories they do not use anymore, and be part of the luxury recycling business without significant investments. In addition, this study established as the main pillars of luxury recycling items via e-commerce channels the following aspects: the use of e-commerce to recycle luxury clothes & accessories; the configuration used in luxury recycling e-commerce sites; the sector benefiting the most from the luxury recycling business; the luxury recycling business approach more beneficial. The selection of the study pillars and the reasons for recycling help to achieve the main goal of the study, being understanding what fascinates consumers about luxury recycling. It unveils that configurations such as outlets and individual sales are preferred in the luxury items recycling business. Further, recommendations are provided to consolidate ethical luxury items recycling business, such as the development of more user-friendly technological e-commerce platforms, and decreasing intermediation charges.
- ItemEDUCATION VS. ENTREPRENEURSHIP – BETWEEN THEORY AND PRACTICE: THE CASE OF SMES IN POLAND(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Janowski, Andrzej; Gonchar, Olga; Yakovyshyn, Ruslan; Ekonomická fakultaThe complexity of issues related to entrepreneurial activity is reflected in the discourse in the world of economic sciences that has been continuing for over 200 years. Nowadays, the development of organizational management environment is more and more extensive and, as well as in other highly developed countries, the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland plays a fundamental role in the economy. Yet, there are rising concerns towards the entrepreneurial education direction in world of science. The growing concern in the context of entrepreneurship education has caused a discourse on whether this scholar activity can affect the entrepreneurial effectiveness in practice. We conclude that the contemporary academic management papers are, in a vast majority, focused on theoretical aspects of entrepreneurship, students, granted programs and trainings, while the opinions of real entrepreneurs toward abovementioned valuable efforts are omitted. Therefore, we decided to explore practical entrepreneurial environment to address this gap. The research participants included 189 entrepreneurs (SMEs based) that had been operating continuously for minimum 20 years. We established three objectives of this paper: to analyze the relation between the individual level of education, its characteristics and entrepreneurial success; to evaluate the state educational support in real world entrepreneurial operations effectiveness; to identify educational opportunities and threats and estimate the future research trajectories in this area. Finally, the first attempt, in the world of science, was undertaken to verify whether there is a positive correlation between entrepreneurship teaching and its real effect on entrepreneurship in practice. We empirically prove that the (higher) education can be an obstacle on the path of entrepreneurial success. Additionally, conclusions establish a new perspective on the existing state of knowledge through constructing a bridge which will enable connecting academic efforts and expectations on the part of firm owners.
- ItemThe effect of psychological contract, employer branding and job satisfaction on turnover intention: Organizational commitment as moderating variable at start-up IT company(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Azmy, Ahmad; Wiadi, Iyus; Risza, Handy; Ekonomická fakultaIT-startup is an organization that starts a business in the technology field. The problem that is often faced is high-turnover. The reality of business processes takes a long time to develop into large companies. One of the potential factors in business success is human resources. The present study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of the psychological contract, employer branding, and job environment on turnover intention in IT start-up companies. Organizational commitment was employed as the moderating variable. The study was conducted in several IT start-up companies in Jakarta, focusing on four business fields: educational technology, IT consulting, software and hardware, and IT infrastructure. Respondents were 182 employees of IT start-up companies, recruited using a purposive sampling technique. Applying Partial Least Square, this study found that psychological contract, employer branding, and job environment, directly and indirectly, affect turnover intention. Organizational commitment was found to have the most significant direct effect on turnover intention. Meanwhile, employer branding exhibited the most significant indirect effect on turnover intention. IT start-ups need to strengthen their psychological contracts, employer branding, and job environment to reduce high turnover. IT start-ups must provide a conducive job environment to support employee work processes. This strengthens the psychological aspect of employees to stay afloat in the long term. A sense of loyalty, high commitment, and professionalism must be instilled in all employees as part of efforts to strengthen the psychological contract. The business success of an IT start-up becomes a good branding employer so that it is able to recruit potential human resources candidates. IT start-up companies need to strengthen their psychological contract, employer branding, and job environment in order to minimize turnover intention. Employees are a long-term investment for a company’s business sustainability, and their ideas, creativities, and innovation are pivotal for the company.
- ItemThe effects of private sector companies’ research and development investments on the adoption of cloud computing services in the European Union(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Toader, Liviu; Paraschiv, Dorel; Dinu, Vasile; Manea, Daniela; Mihai, Mihaela; Ekonomická fakultaAs European economies rely more and more on know-how and technology, the importance of investment in research and development, especially from the private sector, is increasing. Private investment in research and development leads to innovation and the creation of know-how and technologies that can increase productivity, competitiveness and contribute to economic growth. Private investment in research and development is particularly important in dynamic sectors with high added value, such as the IT&C sector. Cloud computing is one of the most popular IT&C technologies in recent years, particularly because it bridges the gap between large and small and medium-sized companies in terms of IT&C infrastructure investment needs. Due to cloud computing, small companies can benefit from the same technology and infrastructure as the bigger ones, but at lower costs, without having to make large-scale investments in IT&C infrastructure elements such as: computing power, networks, data storage, specialized software products, etc. This paper analyzes the link between the intensity of investments in research and development (R&D), calculated as the share of research and development expenses made by companies in the business environment (business enterprise sector) in GDP or as a percentage of total research and development expenses, in relation to the adoption of cloud computing technology within companies in the Member States of the European Union. The research results indicate a direct and moderate relationship between the intensity of private R&D spending and the adoption of cloud computing technologies among companies in the Member States. This result can be attributed to both the increase in the overall digitization of the countries most active in terms of private R&D investment, as well as the need for affordable and strong IT&C infrastructure to maximize future returns and drive economic growth.
- ItemEMPLOYEE ATTITUDE TO ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE IN SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Karácsony, Peter; Metzker, Zdenko; Vasic, Tihana; Koltai, Judit Petra; Ekonomická fakultaThe crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic affects the daily operation of organisations, which also brings changes in the life of their workforce. Managing organisational change has been a significant challenge for organisations for several decades. The aim of the research is to assess the behaviour of affected employees toward organisational change. It is examined how different groups of employee’s experience change in general and what they think about organisational change. Furthermore, it is explored whether employees understand the motivation behind the change and how does the change impact their organisation. To answer the research questions, a comprehensive questionnaire survey of small and medium-sized enterprises in Hungary was conducted in autumn 2021. The suitability of the application of factor analysis evaluating the dependence of selected areas of the questionnaire was supported by Barlett test a Cronbach’s alfa coefficient. For individual hypotheses two-sample t-test, contingency table analysis, and Pearson’s Chi-squared test, were applied. The evaluation of the 215 questionnaires shows that the behaviour of employees toward organisational changes is different. The difference in attitudes to the benefit of organizational change for employees were identified, but not for enterprise. Furthermore, the difference in attitudes between employees who have undergone organizational change in the enterprise and those who have not undergone organizational change, were identified too. It is interesting that contingency between the extent to which managers play a role in change and the well-executed nature of change were detected. The practical usage of the research can be helpful for SME management, especially in the HR field. The management can consider that employees may be afraid of the changes if they are ahead of them, but if the change is handled well, people will think positively of it.
- ItemEXPLORING FORMER & MODERN VIEWS: A CATCH-ALL TO ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Berger, Aleš; Ekonomická fakultaIn life, everyone faces personalized conditions such as ageing, disease, and impairments in hearing, vision, or mobility. - ItemExploring the relationship between failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education and youth entrepreneurial resilience: A mediated moderation model(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Wang, Pengju; Xiong, Zhuang; Zhao, Zhiquan; Ekonomická fakultaEntrepreneurial failure exists objectively in the process of entrepreneurship, and the fear of entrepreneurship failure inhibits youth entrepreneurship activities to a certain extent. Thus, failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education is critical to cultivating youth entrepreneurial literacy. However, previous research on this topic has not provided a clear answer to how to improve youth entrepreneurial resilience. To explore the relationship between failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education and youth entrepreneurial resilience, using the questionnaire data of 399 youth recruited from China in October 2021 via the Credamo platform, the multiple regression analysis, and the Bootstrap method, we empirically analyzed the impact of failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education on youth entrepreneurial resilience, as well as the mediating effect of entrepreneurial cognition and the moderating effect of the fault-tolerant environment on the above relationship. The results show that failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education has a significant positive impact on youth entrepreneurial resilience. The two dimensions of willingness cognition and ability cognition in entrepreneurial cognition have a complete mediating effect on the impact of failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education on youth entrepreneurial resilience while the mediating effect of arrangements cognition is not significant. The fault-tolerant environment positively moderates the impact of failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education on entrepreneurial resilience, and its moderating effect is transmitted through the mediating effect of willingness cognition and ability cognition. A strong fault-tolerant environment enhances the impact of failure-learning-based entrepreneurship education on the formation of youth rational cognition, through the mediating effect of willing cognition and ability cognition, which further strengthens the positive impact on youth entrepreneurial resilience. The findings enrich the body of knowledge on entrepreneurship education and can improve youth entrepreneurial resilience.
- ItemExtended model of mobile shopping acceptance: An empirical study of consumer behaviour(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Stefko, Robert; Gavurova, Beata; Olearova, Maria; Bacik, Radovan; Nebesky, Lubomir; Ekonomická fakultaAlthough the popularity of mobile commerce is on the rise, mobile shopping is still not widely accepted in Slovakia. Therefore, research and knowledge in this area is insufficient. Based on two research models which explain human behavior (theory of reasoned action) and how the user accepts new technologies (technology acceptance model), the presented study proposes and tests a conceptual model combining the mentioned models and new, stimulating factors (customized offers and price benefits) in order to design a holistic model for predicting consumer behavior with regard to the acceptance of mobile shopping. In the first step of the research, we used exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to extract the predicted factors and verify the validity and reliability of the research tool – a questionnaire. The main research was conducted on a sample of 627 students from Slovak universities (part-time study). Using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), we performed a measurement model evaluation, and then, using the structural equation modeling – partial least squares (SEM – PLS) method, we evaluated and quantified the expected effects of the investigated factors. These new, stimulating factors, integrated into the theoretical framework of existing models, have been shown to act as direct and indirect predictors of the intention to mobile shopping. However, perceived usefulness proved to be the strongest predictor. The intention to mobile shopping is also significantly influenced by the attitude to mobile shopping, which is also determined by the new factor customized offers. The results the research arrives at may be beneficial for businesses, as they may reduce the costs associated with the creation of mobile shopping channels from an economic point of view and may increase their market competitiveness.
- ItemForeign direct investments and participation in global value chains: New evidence from advanced manufacturing industries in Central and Eastern Europe(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Kersan-Skabic, Ines; Barisic, Antea; Ekonomická fakultaForeign direct investments (FDIs) and trade within global value chains (GVC) have been considered one of the most important vehicles of economic development and competitiveness, especially for countries in transition. The countries of Central and Eastern Europe are competing to attract not only high amounts of FDI inflows but they also put emphasis on the FDIs’ sectoral structure. FDI inflows into advanced industries can represent the basis of technological development that will lead to the creation of a greater number of high-skill jobs and a higher level of innovation, thereby influencing the reduction of the economic gap in relation to developed countries. This study aims to explore the importance of FDI inward stock for GVC participation in the advanced manufacturing industries in eleven EU member states that transferred to market economies in the 1990s and attracted vast amounts of FDI inflows since then. The dynamic panel data analysis results indicate the importance of FDI inward stock in the manufacturing industry for the GVC participation in advanced manufacturing industries across this set of countries while also stressing the important implications of manufacturing share in GDP changes for these industries’ backward GVC participation. The findings confirm a positive association between attracting FDI in the manufacturing sector and GVC integration in advanced manufacturing industries. Such FDI targeting can be a vehicle for internationalization and development of high-tech and knowledge-based industries.
