Abstract
Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá zobrazením postavení učitele/učitelky v období od přelomu dvacátého století a druhé světové války. Jmenovitě srovnává vyobrazení daného ve vybraných dílech britské literatury, konkrétně v novele Sbohem, pane profesore (1934) Jamese Hiltona a v románu Nejlepší léta slečny Jean Brodiové (1961) s ohledem na společenskou situaci, kulturně politické dění a celkový přístup ke vzdělávání v té době. Cílem této práce je identifikovat různé přístupy ke vzdělávání a diskutovat postavení učitele ve společnosti v rámci vybraných děl.
Teoretická část práce poskytuje krátký přehled o postoji britské společnosti ke vzdělání v průběhu 20. století, který ovlivnily významné společenskopolitické změny, ale i všeobecné vývojové trendy. Reflexe významných rozdílů přístupu ke vzdělání mezi různými společenskými vrstvami i mezi muži a ženami a reforem vzdělání slouží při následné analýze vybraných literárních textů. V praktické části se práce opírá o srovnávací literární analýzu ve snaze poskytnout hlubší vhled do postav učitelů a jejich role ve společnosti ve vybraných dílech britské literatury.
Vzhledem k tomu, že obě vybraná díla spadají do odlišných období 20. století, poskytují perspektivu na vývoj postavení učitele ve společnosti v průběhu tohoto období. Práce slouží k objasnění a interpretaci odlišných perspektiv.
This bachelor's thesis deals with the portrayal of the teacher's position between the turn of the twentieth century and the Second World War. It compares the depiction of the given in selected works of British literature, namely James Hilton's novella Good Bye, Mr. Chips (1934) and Muriel Spark's novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1961), concerning the social situation, cultural and political developments, and the general approach to education at the time. The thesis aims to identify different approaches to education and discuss the teacher's position in society within selected works. The theoretical part of the thesis provides a brief overview of British society's attitudes to education during the 20th century, which were influenced by significant socio-political changes and general developments. Reflections on the significant differences in access to education between different social classes and between men and women, and the subsequent educational reforms, are used for the following analysis of selected literary texts. In the practical part, the thesis relies on comparative literary analysis to provide deeper insight into the characters of teachers and their roles in society in selected works of British literature. As the two selected works are from different periods of the 20th century, they provide a perspective on the development of the teacher's position in society during the period. The thesis serves to clarify and interpret the differing perspectives.
