dc.description.abstract | The current habilitation thesis deals with the production of nanomaterials and their modification by means of laser-mediated strategies. The topic is addressed by analyzing a collection of twelve scientific articles, of which I am the principal author or one of the principal co-authors. The articles were prepared and published during the solution of various consecutive projects having as a central aim the study and development of nanomaterials for life sciencerelated applications, of which I was part of the solving team with the role of a senior researcher. The collection is divided into three main groups that represent the research lines I have been following during my scientific carrier; element rearrangement in nanocomposites, nanoalloy formation and the junction of multiple elements, and nanomaterials morphology control. The analysis of every articles group provides an in-depth view of the different strategies I have developed together with my collaborators at the TUL and foreign institutions to face the most difficult challenges related to the laser-mediated synthesis and modification of materials, i.e., the lack of control over the element composition and distribution within the laser-produced materials, and the difficulty to manipulate their morphology. This analysis discusses topics such as laser modification of nanocomposites, hybridization between noble metals and semiconductors, junction of multiple elements in single systems or reshaping of micro and nanomaterials. The questions that still exist in each research line are presented, and the proposals I suggest to face these challenges objectively are explained. Finally, the relevance of these topics is reviewed within the framework of the applications that derive from their implementation and how further developments in these fields can impact our society’s progress. | |
