dc.description.abstract	Tato práce se zabývá událostmi spojenými s rapovou rivalitou na východním a západním pobřeží. Obsahem práce je historie hudebního žánru a původ této subkultury s cílem vysvětlit a popsat rozdíly mezi oběma pobřežími, jednotlivými umělci, jejich vydavatelstvími a kulturním i politickém smýšlení, které reprezentují. Za tímto účelem bude práce věnovat pozornost okolnostem života v této konkrétní době, hiphopovému hudebnímu průmyslu a nejvlivnějším umělcům tohoto odvětví, jako byli Notorious B.I.G. a Tupac. Tato éra byla pro současný hip hop, respektive pro hudební průmysl celkově formativní, přesto mnoho příznivců tohoto žánru neví, co toto hudební odvětví představuje a z jakých kulturních a společenských složitostí vychází. Práce bude kombinovat kulturněhistorický přehled s textovými analýzami konkrétních položek textů, aby zmapovala tento zajímavý a ikonický kulturní a hudebněprůmyslový fenomén, a pokusí se situovat jeho význam pro současné umělce (z hlediska odkazu a vlivu) i posluchače.	cs
dc.description.abstract	The subject of this thesis is the history of, and events connected to, the east-and-west-coast rap rivalry. The thesis deals with the history of the music genre and the roots of this subculture, in order to put into context and describe the differences between the two coasts with respect to the artists, their labels and the genres and (cultural as well as political) mindsets they represent. To this end, the thesis will pay special attention to the background of life in this particular era, the hip hop music industry and the most influential artists of this branch, such as Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac. This era was formative for present-day hip hop, and the music industry more broadly speaking, yet a lot of followers of this genre are not familiar with what this branch of music (and the cultural and social complexities from which it comes and which it circulates to date) represents. The thesis will combine a cultural-historical overview with textual analyses (of specific items of lyrics) to map out this interesting and iconic cultural and music-industrial phenomenon and will attempt to situate its significance for contemporary artists (in terms of legacy and influence) as well as audiences.	en
