Abstract
Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na porovnání vyobrazení profesionálních soutěží v dvou filmech: Blow Dry (2001) režiséra Paddyho Breathnache a Strictly Ballroom (1992) režiséra Baze Luhrmanna. Analýza se soustředí na tři hlavní témata: vliv profesionálních vztahů na osobní životy postav, vliv osobních dynamik na profesní aspirace a exkluzivitu soutěží jako nástroj diskriminace. V případě filmu Blow Dry se jedná o soutěž kadeřníků, zatímco Strictly Ballroom zobrazuje svět profesionálního tanečního sportu.
Přes zdánlivě odlišné profesní prostředí oba filmy sdílejí společné motivy individuality, konformity, osobních vztahů a systémových mocenských struktur. Teoretický rámec práce tvoří filmová teorie, sociální psychologie a teorie genderu, které poskytují nástroje pro interpretaci těchto témat v kontextu filmového vyprávění a společenských dynamik.
Výsledky analýzy ukazují, jak oba filmy kritizují hierarchické a exkluzivní povahy profesionálních soutěží a poukazují na jejich roli v diskriminaci a marginalizaci. Práce také navrhuje pojem ?soutěžní filmy? jako specifický subžánr, který spojuje prvky sportovních, performativních a dramatických filmů.
This bachelor thesis focuses on comparing the portrayal of professional competitions in two films: Blow Dry (2001) directed by Paddy Breathnach and Strictly Ballroom (1992) directed by Baz Luhrmann. The analysis centers on three main themes: the influence of professional relationships on personal lives, the impact of personal dynamics on professional aspirations, and the exclusivity of competitions as a tool for discrimination. In Blow Dry, the competition involves hairdressers, while Strictly Ballroom depicts the world of professional ballroom dance. Despite their seemingly different professional settings, both films share common motifs of individuality, conformity, personal relationships, and systemic power structures. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on film theory, social psychology, and gender theory, providing tools to interpret these themes in the context of cinematic storytelling and social dynamics. The analysis highlights how both films critique the hierarchical and exclusive nature of professional competitions and their role in discrimination and marginalization. The thesis also proposes the concept of "competition films" as a distinct subgenre that blends elements of sports, performance, and drama films.
