Abstract
Tato kniha obsahuje Callaghanovo autobiografické a subjektivní vnímaní jeho setkání s příslušníky Ztracené generace, především s Ernestem Hemingwayem a F. Scottem Fitzgeraldem, v Paříži v roce 1929. Cílem práce je posoudit a představit míru subjektivity v Callaghanově vyobrazení autorů Ztracené generace. Hodnocení bylo vyvozeno na základě pozorného čtení a podrobného srovnání autorova pohledu, akademických biografií a dalších historických pramenů. Bylo vyhodnoceno, že Callaghanův memoár je protkán subjektivitou. Sekundární výzkum se zaměřuje na zjištění, zda Callaghan konstruuje nové "mytologické" obrazy, nebo zda se pokouší o vykreslení těchto spisovatelů v realistickém světle. Prostřednictvím vyobrazení a pozorného čtení se jeví, že Callaghan se snažil vykreslit Hemingwaye i Fitzgeralda v realističtějším a intimnějším světle, nicméně se Callaghan snažil "mytologizovat" svůj obraz ve světě literárních titánů.
This bachelor's thesis focuses on That Summer in Paris (1929) by Morley Callaghan. This book features Callaghan's autobiographic and subjective perception of his encounters with the members of the Lost Generation, especially Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, in Paris in 1929. The thesis aims to assess and present the extent of subjectivity in Callaghan's portrayal of Lost Generation authors. The assessment is estimated by close reading and comparison of the author's point of view, academic biographies, and other historical sources. It is proven that Callaghan's memoir is intertwined with subjectivity. Secondary research focuses on determining whether Callaghan constructs new "mythological" images or whether he attempts to portray these writers in a realistic light. Through the depiction and close reading, it is shown that Callaghan tries to portray both Hemingway and Fitzgerald in a more realistic and intimate light, however, he tries to "mythologize" himself in the world of literary titans.
