Abstract
Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou metafor v písňových textech americké zpěvačky Taylor Swift. Cílem práce je prozkoumat, jak se užití metafor proměňuje napříč různými hudebními žánry a fázemi její kariéry. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na typy a komplexitu metafor podle teorie konceptuální metafory. Teoretická část vychází z prací George Lakoffa a Marka Johnsona, kteří rozlišují mezi strukturálními, ontologickými a orientačními metaforami a také Zoltána Kövecsese, který rozlišil metafory na primární a komplexní. Praktická část zahrnuje kvalitativní analýzu nejpřehrávanějších skladeb z vybraných alb napříč žánrovým spektrem. Výsledky ukazují, že metaforická struktura textů Taylor Swift se proměňuje v závislosti na žánru i tematickém zaměření, přičemž komplexní metafory se objevují nejen v introspektivních skladbách, ale také v narativních písních. Práce přispívá k hlubšímu porozumění tomu, jak figurativní jazyk funguje v populární hudbě.
This bachelor's thesis explores the use of metaphors in the lyrics of American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. The aim of the study is to investigate the metaphor usage across musical genres and phases of Swift's career, with a focus on metaphor types and complexity as defined by conceptual metaphor theory. The theoretical framework draws primarily on the work of George Lakoff and Mark Johnson, distinguishing among structural, ontological, and orientational metaphors, as well as between primary and complex metaphors introduced by Zoltán Kövecses. The practical part consists of a qualitative analysis of Swift's most streamed songs from selected albums representing different genres. The findings indicate that the metaphorical structures in Swift's lyrics differ depending on genre and thematic focus, with complex metaphors appearing not only in introspective songs but also in more narrative tracks. This thesis contributes to a broader understanding of figurative language in contemporary popular music by highlighting its diverse functions across different lyrical contexts.
