dc.description.abstract	Diplomová práce zkoumá vliv velitelů germánského původu, kteří byli ve službách západořímské říše, na její postupný úpadek vedoucí k rozpadu roku 476 n. l. Snaží se zjistit, které kroky učinili vybraní generálové pro zachování, či naopak destabilizaci. Má rozhodnout, zda se vybraný magister militum snažil spíše o rozvrat nebo o udržení impéria. Sleduje jeho motivace, chce objasnit, co jej vedlo k takovému jednání. Zkoumá také, zda smíšený původ vojevůdců byl faktorem ovlivňujícím jejich počínání v úřadu nejvyššího vojenského velitele.Práce se snaží komplexně nastínit co největší část života jednotlivých osobností, čímž mapuje vývoj v západořímské říši od druhé poloviny 4. století do závěru 5. století našeho letopočtu V tomto období se snaží poskytnout i porovnání osudů jednotlivých generálů a najít některé shodné rysy jejich životů. Snažím se v práci také odhlédnout od některých tradičních výkladů, které jsou spojeny často se sledovanými veliteli spojeny, a které jsou mnohdy zavádějící.	cs
dc.description.abstract	This thesis analyses an influence of the Roman Army generals of Germanic origin serving in Western Roman Empire on gradual decline which escalated in the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 A.D. A part of this thesis discovers if particular generals (magister militum) by their actions assisted in a preservation or destabilisation of the Empire and what were the specific motivations for such actions. An important part of the thesis is dedicated to an examination if a Germanic origin of the Roman generals somehow played a significant part in a decision-making process during the serving in Roman Army.One of the thesis priorities is to describe as much as possible about the lives of particular generals which helps to build a complex picture about the development of the Western Roman Empire from the second half of the fourth century until the end of the fifth century A.D. In this period of time an author tries to compare military careers of particular Roman generals of Germanic origin and to discover any possible identical parallels in their lives and military careers. The author will not forget to critically evaluate some of the traditional definitions linked to the particular Roman generals, which are frequently misleading.	en
