Abstract
Cílem bakalářské práce je přispět k porozumění fungování, významu a způsobů luštění šifrovacího přístroje Enigma, který byl používán německými ozbrojenými složkami k šifrování komunikace od počátku 30. let až do konce 2. světové války. Součástí práce je podrobný matematický popis fungování přístroje Enigma (včetně naprogramování simulátoru v jazyce Python). Je popsán způsob používání přístroje a dále jsou popsány hlavní metody luštění, které byly použity nejprve polskými a později britskými kryptoanalytiky. Součástí práce je i krátký historický přehled zasazující jednotlivé luštitelské úspěchy do kontextu tehdejších událostí.
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the functioning, meaning and ways of cracking the Enigma cipher machine, which was used by the German armed forces to encrypt communications from the early 1930s until the end of World War II. The thesis includes a detailed mathematical description of the operation of the Enigma machine (including the programming of a simulator in Python). The way of using the device is described, and the main methods of decipherment used first by Polish and later by British cryptanalysts are also described. The work also includes a short historical overview placing individual cracking achievements in the context of the events of the time.
