Abstract
The study deals with the interdisciplinary topic of the electromagnetic compatibility of the cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) that are used in patients with a defect of the heart conduction system. This article points on the issues of electromagnetic interference (EMI) detected on electrodes of cardiostimulation device. The detection of disturbance signals depends on many aspects related to electrode choice, device placement, it's configuration and programming. The aim of the study is the analysis of the pacemaker response in the presence of an external source of the disturbance fields. We point to possible risks of its interaction and discuss the mechanisms that can influence the pacemaker sensitivity to EMI. Finally, we present one real case and an experiment of the exposure of the cardiostimulation system to a low-frequency time-varying field. The emphasis of this session is put on physical and technical aspects, but it is also related to the medical part of the issue.
