Abstract
Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zobrazení pracující třídy v Anglii v druhépolovině 19. století a na začátku 20. století skrz moderní populární média. Práce budevěnovat speciální pozornost vyobrazení moderních nápadů o organizovanýchzločinech v tomto historickém kontextu.Práce bude rozdělena na dvě části. V teoretické části se bude věnovat sociokulturnímu pozadí pracující třídy a jejich postavení ve společnosti na konci 19. azačátku 20. století. Také bude zmíněna stručná charakteristika doby, spolu is významnými změnami pro pracující třídu. V praktické části se práce zaměřuje na to,jak seriály Peaky Blinders a Ripper Street znázornili problémy pracující třídy a nárůstzločinů. Analýza bude založena na teoriích televizního žánru a adaptacích s důrazemna moderní fascinaci touto dobou. Nakonec se zaměří na otázku senzacionalismuv těchto dvou seriálech.
This bachelor thesis focuses on contemporary popular media representations ofthe working class in England during the second half of the 19th century and thebeginning of the 20th century. The thesis will pay special attention to therepresentation of contemporary ideas about organized crimes in this historical context.The work is divided into two parts. In the theoretical part, the thesis presents thesocio-cultural background of the working class and their status in late 19th and early20th-century society. To that end, it briefly maps out the characteristics of the era,including significant changes for the working class. In the practical part, the thesisfocuses on how the TV series Peaky Blinders and Ripper Street illustrate the issues ofthe working class and the increase of crime and violence. The analysis will be basedon theories of television genre and adaptation, with emphasis on a contemporaryfascination with the period in question. Lastly, the thesis considers the question ofsensationalism in these two TV series.
