Abstract
Bakalářská práce porovnává reakce amerických a československých médií na působení senátora McCarthyho. Práce analyzuje a následně komparuje novinové články vydané na počátku jeho antikomunistického tažení, z období sporu McCarthy versus armáda, poté články vycházející v době jeho politického pádu a na závěr jsou analyzovány a komparovány články vycházející po senátorově smrti. Práce zároveň mapuje senátorovy spory s armádou, senátorovy příznivce, senátorovo antikomunistické tažení, ale i senátorův osobní život. Výsledkem však není pouze zmapování rozličných pohledů na McCarthyho působení, ale také seznámení se s dobovou atmosférou padesátých a šedesátých let 20. století jak v Československu, tak i ve Spojených státech.
Bachelor's thesis compares the reactions of the American and Czechoslovak media to the work of Senator McCarthy. The paper analyzes and then compares newspaper articles published at the beginning of his anti-communist campaign, from the McCarthy v. Army dispute period, then articles published at the time of his political downfall, and finally articles published after the senator's death are analyzed and compared. The work also maps the senator's disputes with the army, the senator's supporters, the senator's anti-communist campaign, but also the senator's personal life. However, the result is not only a mapping of different views on the McCarthy's work, but also an acquaintance with the period atmosphere in the 1950s and 1960s in both Czechoslovakia and the USA.
