Abstract
This bachelor thesis deals with the work of peer consultants of mental health centres with involuntary clients. The author aims to describe experiences of peer consultants in working with involuntary clients. In the theoretical part, several crucial topics are introduced. The first of these are peer consultants. The reader can acquaint themselves with the history of this position in the Czech Republic, the method of educating those interested in this position, and the specifics of their work. The concept of recovery is also introduced, which forms the basis of the modern approach to treating mental illnesses in mental health centres. The topic of involuntary clients is rather broader and less straightforward, therefore the concepts of several authors are presented, and a synthesis of their findings is provided in conclusion. The last chapter of the theoretical part deals with the connection between peer consultants and involuntary clients. In the opening of the empirical part, the methodology and the process of the survey are described. Considering the research topic, a qualitative method was chosen, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with six respondents. The survey method was significantly inspired by the method of grounded theory. The survey results are interpreted in the fifth chapter. The reader is acquainted with the basic categories related to the topic and their interconnections. In the final chapter, the reader will find a summary of the survey results, its limitations, further recommendations, and the contribution that this bachelor thesis can have for social work practice. During the survey, it became apparent that peer consultants have rather marginal experiences with involuntary clients, while they predominantly work with voluntary clients. Upon closer examination of their experiences with involuntary clients, it was found that such work fundamentally does not differ significantly from working with voluntary clients. In every collaboration, the same key elements emerge, namely the relationship (and its establishment), trust, a collaborative approach, and sharing one's own story.
