- ItemA model of the sustainable management of the natural environment in national parks-a case study of national parks in Poland(MDPI, 2020-04-01) Oleśniewicz, Piotr; Pytel, Sławomir; Markiewicz-Patkowska, Julita; Szromek, Adam R.; Jandová, SoňaThis paper aimed to present a model of natural environment management in national parks in Poland in the context of increased tourist traffic. The research area comprised Polish national parks as they are characterized by barely altered nature, little human impact, and undisturbed natural phenomena. The methods involved the observational method, literature analysis and criticism, and the in-depth interview method employed in November 2019. The respondents included national park management staff. The questions were prepared in accordance with the Berlin Declaration principles of sustainable tourism development and were extended with the authors' own items. The questionnaire contained 17 questions, grouped in four parts: science and documentation; tourism; cooperation and education; environmental threats. The results indicate that in order for actions to prove efficient in a park, a conservation plan should be carefully developed. Its correctness requires monitoring the state of the environment, tourist traffic size and trends, and tourists' impact on the environment. An important condition for effective tourism management in parks is to increase the competences of the administering bodies and knowledge regarding individuals' responsibilities. Boards should be able to evaluate and modify conservation plans, spatial development plans, municipality development strategies, and projects for investments within the parks.
- ItemThe factors influencing the decision on the location of hotels depending on their size in Poland(Technical university of Liberec, Czech Republic, 2017-06-15) Puciato, Daniel; Gawlik, Agnieszka; Goranczewski, Bolesław; Oleśniewicz, Piotr; Woś, Barbara; Jandová, Soňa; Markiewicz-Patkowska, Julita; Sołtysik, Mariusz; Ekonomická fakultaThe paper focuses on the relationship between a hotel location and its size in independent hotels operating in Poland. The aim of the article was to indicate the most important factors determining the location of newly built hotels in Poland, depending on their size. The spatial scope of the research included the area of south-western Poland, i.e. the provinces of Lower Silesia, Opole, and Silesia, diverse in terms of cultural, social, economic, and natural conditions, and characterized by different attractiveness as tourist destinations. The time range of the statistical data analysis covered the years of 2000-2009. In the initial phase, the authors applied the deductive method to perform literature analysis, and the diagnostic survey method with the questionnaire technique to identify the most important hotel location factors. Secondly, a quantitative analysis was performed to indicate the most significant factors determining the location of independent hotels in Poland, conditioned by the hotel size. The results of the study indicate clearly that there are differences in the location factors for independent hotels, conditioned by their size. The location of small hotels depends mostly on the communication availability, investment incentives, and tourist attractions. The location of medium and large hotels is mainly related to land prices and the presence of anthropogenic tourist attractions. The results can contribute to a better understanding of the motives of investors selecting a location and may have implications for economic policies, since they can focus local and regional authorities’ attention on important determinants of reception areas investment attractiveness. The research should be extended in the future to include other hotel features, such as the degree of integration with other business entities, standard, organizational form, or capital origin.
- ItemHealth-related Quality of Life and Socio-economic Status of the Unemployed(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Puciato, Daniel; Rozpara, Michał; Bugdol, Marek; Oleśniewicz, Piotr; Jáčová, Helena; Ekonomická fakultaUnemployment has a number of negative, economic, social and psychological effects on unemployed people and their families. Lowered household income leads to a constrained fulfilment of individual and collective needs, which has a significant impact on the quality of life and perceived health condition of the unemployed. The aim of this study is the identification of relationships between the quality of life and socio-economic status of unemployed persons. The study was carried out among 403 registered unemployed persons (246 women, 157 men) from Wrocław, Poland. The main method used in the study was the diagnostic questionnaire survey. Respondents’ quality of life was assessed using the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire, and their socio-economic status with author’s own S-ESQ questionnaire. Arithmetic means and standard deviation were calculated. Correlations between respondents’ quality of life and socio-economic status were checked with the Kruskal-Wallis one-way analysis of variance and Dunn’s post-hoc tests. The ex-ante level of statistical significance was set at α < 0.05. The mean health-related quality of life score of the unemployed respondents under study was higher than the mean perceived health condition score. As for the four quality of life domains, the respondents reported the highest scores in the social domain and psychological domain, followed by the physical and environmental domains. The analysis of mean scores of overall quality of life of the unemployed revealed statistically significant differences between groups of jobless Wrocław residents with regard to such factors as age, number of household members, and per capita income. Respondents’ age, education, marital status, persons per household, per capital income, and having savings were also significant differentiating factors of perceived health condition. The results of the study can be significant for public health policies in Poland and other countries at a similar level of economic development.
- ItemInnovative Supplier Partnership Assessment Model in a Polish Trading Enterprise(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, ) Tyszkiewicz, Rafał; Pawlak-Wolanin, Agnieszka; Markiewicz-Patkowska, Julita; Jandová, Soňa; Oleśniewicz, Piotr; Jáčová, Helena; Tyszkiewicz, Monika; Ekonomická fakultaThe relationship between a company and a supplier is a strategic resource for both parties. Therefore, the necessity to develop a mechanism of an integrated approach to cooperation with suppliers, which is based on partnership, is becoming more and more pronounced. Such an approach necessitates taking into consideration an abundance of factors accompanying cooperation within a mutual venture. These factors may include: compatibility of businesses – similar values, organizational cultures, and goals or the philosophy and management methods. The objective of the article is to present a supplier partnership assessment model as implemented in a Polish trading enterprise, as well as proposed assessment criteria and methods. Verification of the criteria applied to suppliers has been performed on the example of Centrum Projekcji Multimedialnych, which is a dealer of the following companies: inFocus, Sony, Sanyo, Toshiba, Epson, Panasonic, and 3M. Operational data of the company have been used for that purpose; in turn, the assessment and selection of the key suppliers took place through the use of the following methods: ABC analysis, scoring, the graphics method, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process method. Out of 18 suppliers that the company cooperates with on an ongoing basis, six key ones were selected. The results of supplier partnerships suggest that some criteria applicable to the company’s suppliers are more significant than others, and that they are the ones which ought to underlie the system of such assessment. The presented supplier partnership assessment model allows selecting suppliers that will be providing best quality goods at the lowest price.
- ItemProtected Areas: Geotourist Attractiveness for Weekend Tourists Based on the Example of Gorczański National Park in Poland(MDPI, 2020-03) Widawski, Krzysztof; Oleśniewicz, Piotr; Rozenkiewicz, Agnieszka; Zaręba, Anna; Jandová, SoňaThe aim of the publication was to assess the geotourist attractiveness of protected areas in Poland among weekend tourists based on the example of Gorczański National Park. The park location near urbanized areas makes it an attractive field for research on weekend tourism development. The tourist potential of the park is presented, starting from geological aspects and geotourist values. Then, the tourist potential was analysed, with a focus on geotourist resources, which include tourist trails and didactic routes. The tourist traffic volume was also examined. On the basis of legal documents, such as nature conservation plans, threats related to tourism development in protected areas were presented as indicated by park managers. In accordance with the Act on Nature Conservation, the threats are divided into four groups: internal existing and potential threats and external existing and potential threats. The tourists’ opinion on the geotourist attractiveness of the park was investigated with surveys conducted during selected weekends significant in the context of tourist traffic volume. Thus, a profile of people visiting the park for short stays was obtained, as well as their assessment of the tourist resources of the area, with particular emphasis on geotourist values.
