- ItemTHE INTENSITY USAGE OF FOREIGN PRESENCE IN REGIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF INVESTMENT INCENTIVES(Masarykova univerzita, 2018) Kotíková SylvieThe aim is to find out how the presence of multinational companies was able to show growth in the productivity of a group of selected regions. To achieve this goal, an indicator, to measure the intensity of foreign presences, was constructed. It gauged to which degree the capacity of the region exploited the activities of the companies. In this case, foreign direct investment was granted government support in the form of investment incentives. Based on the chosen criterion, conclusions can be made regarding the benefits of granting this kind of public support. To monitor the capacity of the region, in order to efficiently absorb the technological potential of foreign direct investment, the productivity shift in the region was investigated. This depended on the investor’s technological advancement and the proportion of investments made in the region. The development was monitored in a series of thirteen years. The primary data source is the CzechInvest database, annual reports, OECD and statistics from the Czech Statistical Office. The results show the Carlsbad region’s unfavourable position. This finding also highlights the weaknesses of the labour market and the non-use of the comparative advantage.

- ItemMarket internationalization in the regional context(Masaryk university, 2017) Čuhlová Renata; Kotíková SylvieThe paper aims to analyse the presence of foreign direct investments that were granted government support in form of investment incentive. The performed analysis consists of the national cultural distance measurement and the foreign presence calculations an indicator of spillover effects including also the intensity of transfer indicator that collectively depict the situation in the Pardubice region of the Czech Republic with the related effects. The research sample of 22 foreign investors is investigated during the period 2002-2014. The cultural distance is calculated by original and modified Kogut-Singh index based on Hofstede´s data of cultural dimensions. The lowest cultural distance from the Czech Republic as a host investment country was found with Spain and Italy. Contrary, the highest cultural distance was measured with Denmark. Findings of the foreign presence investigation report the ability of the Pardubice region to improve or absorb the benefits from localized companies at a steady pace from 2002 to 2011 and afterwards with decreasing trend for the last two examined years. Low level of the foreign presence suggests low potential for know-how spillover from FDI into domestic firms which is supported by values of the intensity of transfer of 0.4 in average.
- ItemMeasuring the size of the technology gap at a level of Czech regions(University of Pardubice, 2018) Kotíková SylvieThe technology gap is one of key determinants of spillovers. This paper aims to quantify the size of the technology gap between foreign direct investments, which received investment incentives and business environment in six regions of the Czech Republic in time series of 2002-2014. The development of regional technology gap was determined by using the Shift-share analysis method - decomposition of the region's technological level into productivity, employment, and a combination of both of the effects. The main data source was the statistics issued decisions of investment incentives published by the agency CzechInvest; annual reports of foreign companies; data of the Czech Statistical Office and the OECD. The established indicator tracks the difference between the technological advancement of foreign firms and a regional business environment. The higher the value of this indicator than in other regions is, the higher the potential for technological growth the region has than regions compared. The magnitude of the value is given by the technological level of foreign companies and their share in regional employment. The best position takes the Pilsen region, which has the highest potential for spillovers in terms of the technology gap. On the contrary, the worst position has the Carlsbad region.
