The thesis is divided into four parts. The introductory part focuses on the foreign policy of the USA and the international situation after World War II, the origins of the Cold War and the American domestic affairs. The second part of my thesis deals with the causes of the "witch-hunting" and so called McCarthyism and their influence on the American society. The next part analyses the impact of the "witch-hunting" on the film industry in Hollywood. The final part focuses on the reflection of the "witch-hunting" events in Czechoslovakia, predominantly in the Czechoslovak press.The thesis is based on the study of extensive specialized Czech and English literature, the sources and the internet sources, mostly of American provenance. The final part is primarily based on contemporary press from 1947 to 1957; journals Rudé právo, Svobodné slovo and Lidová demokracie.
