- ItemFiber Structures for Electromagnetic Radiation Shielding(2024) Tunáková, VeronikaThis habilitation thesis is a set of published scientific papers or engineering papers supplemented with a commentary according to §72 paragraph 3 point Act No. 111/1998 Coll. on universities. In total, the set of scientific paper contains 18 research works published in impact factor journals, 1 conference paper indexed in Scopus database, and 2 utility models. The chosen scientific papers are mainly focused on the usage of different methods for development of textiles with increased electrical conductivity and increased electromagnetic shielding ability. They are also devoted to the properties of these special textiles in connection with their practical use, and options of designing these special fabrics. Measurement methods of electromagnetic shielding effectiveness together with the possibilities of electromagnetic shielding modeling are also discussed. At the end of this thesis is presented a brief description of applications of textiles that are able to shield electromagnetic field.
- ItemHybrid knitted fabric for electromagnetic radiation shielding(SAGE PUBLICATIONS LTD, 1 OLIVERS YARD, 55 CITY ROAD, LONDON EC1Y 1SP, ENGLAND, 2020-05) Tunáková, Veronika; Tunák, Maroš; Bajzík, Vladimír; Ocheretna, Larysa; Arabuli, Svitlana; Kyzymchuk, Olena; Vlasenko, ViktoriiaToday we can't imagine our life without electricity and technology, transport and television. In the information age, computers, the Internet, cell phones, and smartphones are helpers for everyday needs. However, our environment and comfortable living in it can be detrimental to our health. It is hard to realize the fact that such a global technical breakthrough has hit human health. Exposure to electromagnetic radiation could lead to changes in the structure of nerve cells and blood formulas, deformation of the circulatory system, pathology of the endocrine system, decreased immunity, and so on. Nowadays the development of innovative textiles with electromagnetic radiation shielding is a relevant topic that promotes the creation of a flexible protective screen for the human being and various electronic devices. Textiles themselves do not protect against electromagnetic radiation; however, the textiles can be successfully converted into protective material after changing the raw material composition, creating a new production process, or adapting technologies that can make them electrically conductive. Basic methods of textile producing such as weaving, knitting, non-weaving, or their combination can be used to make electromagnetic shielding fabric. In this study, the knitting on 8-gauge flat-bed machine has been chosen as main technology. The metal wire (stainless steel: 0.12 mm) is used separately or together with 10 x 2 tex cotton yarn. Two sets of samples with different interloopings are produced which differ by steel percentages and positioning in the structures. Electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of textile samples (dB) was measured according to ASTM 4935-10 on frequency range 30 MHz-1.5 GHz. It is concluded that the positioning of the metal components in the knitted structure is the main factor determining the shielding ability. The half Milano rib knitted structure demonstrates the highest shielding efficiency.

- ItemSpatial arrangement of stainless steel fibers within hybrid yarns designed for electromagnetic shielding(2019-05) Tunák, Maroš; Tunáková, Veronika; Schindler, Martin; Procházka, JiříYarns containing textile fibers and fine metal fibers in their structure are often used to produce electrically conductive fabrics. The blending quality of the fiber components in a yarn significantly affects the properties of the yarn and the produced fabric. Therefore, the arrangement of metal fibers in yarn structures needs to be analyzed, which can be done using image analysis and spatial statistics methods. One of the aims of this paper is to introduce a suitable methodology for obtaining adequate cross-sections of a yarn containing metal fibers that would allow the usage of objective image analysis methods to identify the component fibers for subsequent evaluation of spatial arrangement. In this paper, an algorithm for the objective segmentation of the component fibers in a yarn cross-section is proposed, and a methodology for evaluating the spatial arrangement of fibers using spatial statistics data is presented. The second aim is to study the specific arrangement of the fibers in hybrid yarns containing 20 wt% of a conductive component, more precisely extremely thin discrete stainless steel fibers, by the proposed methodology. Based on the results, it is concluded that the metal fibers in the cross-sections of this hybrid yarn are randomly arranged.
