Its incidence has increased in recent years not only by adults but also by children. The increase of children's obesity ranks the Czech Republic among the leading places in Europe.This thesis describes the causes, incidence and consequences of the disease. It also discusses the solution and possible ways to prevent or at least to mild the causes of illness and the protecion against them. In the research took part 469 pupils aged 12-15 years from seven primary schools in the region. According to the results of the survey, the BMI values range for the largest percentage of students selected between the 25th and 50th percentile, it means in the range of middle values. From obesity suffer 13 % of girls and 12 % of boys aged 12-15 years. The largest percentage of obese individuals were found among girls aged 12 years, namely 17 %. In this group had also been found the largest amount of body fat. 18 % of them had an estimate of body fat equal to or greater than 37 %.The lowest percentage, 9 % of obese individuals had been found among boys aged 13 years. There was 11 % of the estimate of body fat equal to or greater than 37 %.The aim of this diploma thesis is to determine the prevalence of obesity among children of teenage age in the Liberec region and compare the results with results from previous years.
