Bioplastics and bio-nanocomposites are increasingly developed nowadays either from biomass sources such as polysaccharides, protein, cellulose, etc, or from marine and animals. The use of biodegradable, renewable and nontoxic materials reduces the harmful impact of carcinogenics, which becomes advantageous especially in food packaging applications. Electrospinning has a major contribution in this field as it opens doors to fabricate a nano-scale nonwoven fibres with high surface area and with superior physical and chemical properties that differ from the bulk materials and can be used in many applications. In this study, sliver nanoparticles (Nps) are synthesized by gum arabic (Ga) and the produced nanoparticles are used as a reinforcement of nanofiber membranes based on Ga. The membrane is cross-linked with heat treatment, and then with methane plasma treatment. The produced Ag Nps and nanofibers are characterized by CPS, DLS, UV-Vis, FTIR, and SEM. The mechanical properties are measured as well as swelling ratio, mass loss, and contact angle. An increase of water contact angle from 46° to 121° after plasma treatment.
