- ItemProblematika zaměstnávání odsouzených(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, 2006) Klimša, Adam; Sochůrek, JanMy thesis deals with the problems of the employment and education of convicted persons. It is based on the current legislative status in the Czech Republic which has pledged to implement the European Prison Rules. This means that the employment of convicted person is to be understood as a tool of re-socialization, not as punishment or vengeance. Neither it should be seen from the purely economic viewpoint only. My objective was to summarize the offer of work opportunities for convicted persons serving their imprisonment in the Prison in Stráž pod Ralskem and, generally, in the whole sector of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic. I also intended to map up the demand for employment among the convicts themselves. My thesis consists of two main parts. The first, theoretical part deals with the definition of basic concepts, summarizes expert literature, outlines the history of convict employment and informs about the problems of penitentiary care as such. The practical part identifies, by means a non-standardized questionnaire, attitudes of the public and convicts towards the debated problems. The results showed that convicts are informed about the possibilities of employment during imprisonment but the offer does not meet their demand. More than half of the public presumed that employment of convicts is beneficial and should be supported. Considering the discussed problems, the most important contribution of my thesis could be seen in the finding that almost half of the convicts serving their imprisonment is willing to work, whereas before going to prison almost three quarters of the convicts from the same sample were unemployed.
