- ItemZimbabwe - ekonomický kolaps(Technická Univerzita v Liberci, 2010) Folprecht, Jan; Kocourek, AlešThe former British colony of Southern Rhodesia declared independence from the United Kingdom in 1964. The economic situation was influenced by the foreign position of the country and the sanctions imposed on it. After 16 years Robert Mugabe and his ZANU (PF) took over the government of newly established Zimbabwe. Thirty years of his government lead Zimbabwe to the position of one the poorest and indebted countries in the world with a number of problems. Zimbabwe went through one of the worst hyperinflations in the history and one of the most dramatic drops of the quality of life of the population. This work describes and analyses the roots of this decline, tracking the impact of government economic policies, as well as the government's non-economical decisions and policies with massive impact on economic life of the country. Comparisons with some neighboring countries show the different approaches and opportunities how to achieve economic growth for countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
