    The diploma work deals with support and development of selected region with focus on human resources particularly support of the educational work and the level of education in the Liberec County. The diploma work consists of two parts: the theoretical one and the practical one. In first chapter of the theoretical part, an analysis of regional policy of the European Union and its goals and means are mentioned. The following part deals with the principles of regional policy in Czech Republic. The third chapter examines the options of funding the districts and their development by state as well as by funds from European Union or other similar sources. In the practical part, the regional policy is applied specifically on the Liberec County, particularly on its economically weak areas. In the next chapter of the practical part, such areas are analyzed regarding the education availability and the educational structure. The charts and graphs are frequently used to analyze the county situation in this chapter. The closing part of the thesis examines funding of Liberec County development with some specific education-based projects stated in the area as examples.
