    This diploma thesis introduces the issue of insurance fraud in the Czech Republic. The insurance fraud is defined in terms of criminal law and is compared with the previous legislation of insurance fraud. In this thesis are also mentioned other legal facts that are linked to the insurance fraud. Attention is paid to the description of cases of the insurance fraud in the particular insurance segments. In this thesis is analyzed and evaluated the present status of the insurance frauds based on the statistics of specialized insurance divisions engaged in detecting the crime of insurance fraud, and authorities active in criminal proceedings. Part of the text brings in registers in banking and non-banking sectors that can serve as an inspiration for the insurance sector because they accomplish their requirements effectively and at the same time have some attributes in common. The objective of this thesis is to propose a solution that would result in a higher detection of insurance fraud.
